Bridal Cosmetic Surgery Rise

London cosmetic surgeon Dalia Nield has reported a rise in women having cosmetic surgery for their big day. Based at The London Clinic, she has noticed a 50 per cent increase in the run up to summer, with many women opting for cosmetic surgery to enable them to look great when walking down the aisle. But it’s not all about bigger breasts and slimmer thighs. Sarah Rowan, aged 30, from York, had cosmetic surgery for a very different reason.

Sarah had dreamed of her big day and wearing her hair up, but her sticking out ears meant she’d always felt very conscious of showing them and had had long hair for as long as she could remember, which she always wore loose.

“I was teased and bullied at school for having ‘bat ears’ and something like that stays with you into adulthood. I felt my ears were protruding and very noticeable from the back. They would stick through my hair, which I always wore down. I had wanted to correct the problem for a while, but the catalyst was my wedding. Everyone dreams of their big day – and I had always imagined I’d wear my hair up. I decided enough was enough, and booked in for a pinnaplasty,” says Sarah.

Sarah had the op shortly before her July wedding – and has never looked back. Says the mother-of-one:

“The outcome was fantastic and on my wedding day I looked exactly like I'd always imagined. I now wear my hair up often – the novelty hasn't worn off at all. I'd say to anyone thinking of cosmetic surgery to rectify something about their body they don't like to go for it. The confidence you gain is amazing and it's incredible how something like an operation to pin my ears back can have such an effect on my life.”

According to Dalia Nield, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS):

“In the run up to summer we regularly have an increase of around 50 per cent in cosmetic procedures in relation to the winter months, but I'm seeing more and more in my clinic women having cosmetic surgery in time for their wedding. I wouldn’t say a wedding is the only reason one would opt for a surgical procedure, but it is often the catalyst if the patient has been considering cosmetic surgery for a while. I'd say breast augmentation is the most popular procedure for wedding surgery, but liposuction is also popular. The wedding day is the most important day of a woman's life and every woman wants to look their best. It's the one day all eyes are on you.”
